Description
An early 18th century walnut and ebonized cupboard with a pair of paneled and carved doors enclosing a plain interior with two shelves, above a base drawer, on three large ball feet. The luxury cupboard, known as Hamburger Schapp, was usually owned by a high-ranking merchant family. The piece is not necessarily, as the name implies, made in Hamburg. This type of furniture was produced throughout the region along the Baltic coast between Lübeck and Dantzig. The name only refers to the shape of the cupboard.
